“If I were to make a list of the best schools in the world, XP would be on that list.” – Ron Berger, Senior Advisor, Expeditionary Learning USA.

If you are looking to support and challenge young people in a model of schooling that dares to break the mould, then this might just be for you.

XP Gateshead is a new mainstream 11-16 Secondary School that opened in August 2021. We are a deliberately sized school with each year having 50 students, we currently have 200 students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10. We are now recruiting for our fifth year of opening.

Our rigorous 3-D approach develops activism, leadership and equity in our students by creating beautiful work, which develops character and ensures that our children achieve academic success.

We believe a person is judged by their character and the quality of work they produce. As such the creative arts are at the heart of our curriculum. We teach through cross-curricular learning expeditions where students address important guiding questions, making connections between disciplines.

You can read our recent Ofsted report here.

We are looking for great people who want to become even better to join our school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our team and help further the development of our school in Gateshead. The opportunity to be part of a new and growing school is a genuine once in a lifetime opportunity.

You will join a “Crew” of dedicated professionals in an innovative new school setting with the purpose of improving life chances for young people in Gateshead.

Learning Coaches support all students with their learning in the classroom. Unlike most secondary schools, we have deliberately sized classes of 25 mixed ability students, and a Learning Coach in most classrooms, in addition to the teacher.

As a Crew Leader too, you would provide pastoral support and challenge to your Crew of 12 or 13 students, spending 45 minutes with them every day to ensure that they produce beautiful work, grow in character and see academic success. You will get to know your Crew extremely well and will be the first point of contact in the school for their families.

XP Trust is a group of internationally renowned schools, hosting hundreds of visitors from across the world every year.
